Renewals
As of 2/12/20 that two automatic renewals will be made on all materials unless an item is on reserve for another patron.
The Park Ridge Public Library will accept new, identical copies as replacements for items that have been lost or damaged and are less than 90 days overdue. Items that are over 90 days late will not be accepted as returns and may not be replaced with an identical copy. The full replacement cost must be paid for any items that are over 90 days late.
Effective February 14, 2020, BCCLS will automatically renew eligible items checked out to library cardholders.
How do Automatic Renewals Work?
- Eligible items will renew automatically 3 days before their due date for the full loan period.
- You will receive a notification via email or text if an eligible item has been renewed.
- Notification is only via email or text, so be sure we have your current information in our system.
- You can still renew eligible items at any time through your account at bccls.org or at any BCCLS library.
An item is NOT eligible for Automatic Renewal if:
- The item has reached its renewal limit.
- The item is on hold for another patron.
- Your card has expired.
- You owe $10 or more in fines.
- You have 10 or more items overdue.
Requests/Reserves
Requests and reserves for items unavailable or not currently available at our library are made online by visiting www.bccls.org (you must have a valid BCCLS Library Card pin number). You will be notified by email, text, or a phone call upon the item’s availability. We will hold an item three (3) days for pick-up.
Overdue Items
Overdue notices are generated two weeks after the item is due and are either emailed or mailed, according to preference. Bills are mailed at 2 months after the item is due. Items overdue for FOUR months are considered LOST and the Park Ridge Borough code 62-1 is invoked. Out of town items, LOST, must be payed for according to BCCLS Policy.
Park Ridge items that are returned late will incur a late return fee of $.10 per day, per item. The maximum late fee for each item is $5.00.
Please be aware that other libraries have different fine rates on their items.
We recommend that all patrons take advantage of the online account feature within the catalog to monitor the status and due dates of items borrowed.
Fines, Loss, and Damaged Items – No refunds for lost and paid items if found after two months’ time. Patrons are responsible for returned, damaged items. These items must be paid for or if they are owned by Park Ridge, they maybe replaced with permission from the Library.
Park Ridge Public Library facilities are available to patrons of all ages. While everyone has an equal right to access library services, no person has the right to interfere with the ability of others to use and enjoy library resources and services. To this end, the Park Ridge Public Library sets standards of acceptable behavior on Library premises to ensure an atmosphere that encourages the use and enjoyment of Library resources and services, promotes the safety of the general public and the Library staff, and protects Library materials, equipment, building, and grounds.
This policy pertains to children, teenagers, and adults. Parents are solely responsible for the actions of their children on Library premises, whether or not a caretaker attends to the children. The Park Ridge Public Library prohibits unattended minors less than ten years of age to be in the Library. Library staff cannot, and will not, serve as caretakers.
Disruptive and unacceptable behavior includes any activity that:
- Interferes with the rights of other patrons to use the Library
- Disrupts the normal functioning of the Library
- May result in physical, emotional, or mental injury to oneself or others
- May result in damage to materials, equipment, building and grounds
- Constitutes a failure to comply with Library staff directives
The Library reserves the right to:
- Require anyone who engages in disruptive behavior to leave the premises
- Restrict Library privileges of disruptive individuals for a specified period of time
- Ban disruptive individuals from Library premises for a specified period of time or permanently
Library staff will verbally notify the disruptive individual that he or she is in violation of the standards of acceptable behavior. Repeated disruptive behavior may be reported to parents or the police. Further disciplinary action will be determined on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Library Director. Unlawful activities will be reported immediately to the Park Ridge Police Department.
